On Friday, 11 July, 2025, the Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology and Education (HCMUTE) has the privilege of welcoming the oldest university in Australia and Oceania, the University of Sydney (USYD), and its Sydney Vietnam Institution (SVI).

The first meeting outlined two clear paths for future collaboration. One path sets in motion the drafting of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) in preparation for new exchange opportunities for students and faculty of HCMUTE and USYD. Additionally, plans for articulation program mapping will be underway after further discussion with Professor Nguyen Thu Anh - the Institute Director of SVI, regardless of any challenges that may arise due to these institutions having different program accreditations.

The second path envisions USYD and HCMUTE establishing a long-lasting and comprehensive partnership to address and resolve persistent issues in modern society through holistic solutions. One such future project follows the example of TAFE (Technical and Further Education), Australia’s vocational education and training system, where HCMUTE students can benefit from cutting-edge vocational pedagogy and receive employment opportunities in Australia. Another experimental project will be start-up co-incubation, which means providing financial funding, technical support, and manpower for start-ups with impactful, innovative ideas on how to solve human problems. Finally, plans for the construction of a Centre of Excellence with a view to connecting like-minded institutes like TAFE, USYD, and HCMUTE were also discussed.

HCMUTE believes that this upcoming partnership with USYD will be a harbinger of change and a catalyst for groundbreaking innovation, mutual growth, and long-term academic collaboration.
